Privacy Policy —Be Sober
This Privacy Policy explains how Be Sober (“Be Sober”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Be Sober mobile application and related services (the “App”).

1) Information we collect
A. Account & profile information
- A unique user ID (generated by our authentication provider)
- Email address (if you sign up with email)
- Profile details you enter, such as habit type/name, sober start date, daily spend/time, and motivation text/photo
- Trial/subscription state (trial dates and whether premium is active)
B. Recovery content you create
We collect and store content you submit in the App, including:
- Journal entries, notes, and moods
- Urge/craving logs, relapse logs, and related metadata (dates/times, intensity, triggers)
- Check-ins and progress data
C. Community and messaging
If you use community features, we collect and store:
- Posts, replies, group chat messages, and timestamps
- Group membership and admin/moderation actions
- Files you share in group chat (images/videos/files) and file metadata (name, type, size)
Important: Community/group features are designed to be anonymous in the UI, but content you post may be visible to other users in the same community area/group.
D. Photos, audio, and transcripts (optional)
If you attach media:
- Photos you upload (e.g., journal photos, motivation photo)
- Audio recordings you choose to save/upload (e.g., voice journals)
- Transcripts you choose to save (generated from speech recognition on-device)
E. Subscription & purchase information
Purchases are processed by Apple (App Store). We (and our subscription provider) may receive:
- Subscription status (active/expired), product identifiers, and entitlement state
- Purchase/restore events needed to unlock premium features
We do not receive your full payment card details.
F. Device permissions (only if you enable them)
Depending on what you use, the App may request permission to access:
- Photos (to attach/upload or save images)
- Camera (if you take a photo inside the App)
- Microphone (for voice journaling)
- Speech recognition (to transcribe voice journals)
- Face ID / biometrics (to lock/unlock the App, if enabled)
- Apple Health (HealthKit) (to read selected health metrics, if enabled)
- Notifications (for reminders and updates, if enabled)
G. Technical information
We may process limited technical data necessary to operate the App, such as app functionality logs and error details (for debugging and reliability).
2) How we use your information
We use information to:
- Provide core features (timers, logs, journaling, community, file sharing)
- Sync and store your data across devices
- Enable premium access and enforce trials/subscriptions
- Send reminders/notifications if you opt in
- Maintain security, prevent abuse, and enforce community rules
- Improve reliability and performance
3) How we share your information
We do not sell your personal information.
We may share information with:
- Service providers that help run the App (e.g., authentication, database/storage, subscriptions). These providers process data on our behalf under contractual terms.
- Other users, when you post or message in community/group features (your content becomes visible within those areas).
- Legal/Compliance, if required to comply with law, enforce policies, or protect safety and rights.
4) Third-party services
The App may use third-party services such as:
- Supabase (authentication, database, file storage, realtime messaging)
- RevenueCat (subscription management)
- Apple services (App Store purchases, notification delivery, HealthKit, Speech Recognition, Face ID)
These services have their own privacy practices.
5) Health data (Apple Health / HealthKit)
If you choose to connect Apple Health, the App may read selected metrics (such as steps, sleep, heart rate) to display insights. You can revoke access at any time in iOS settings/Health app permissions.
6) Data retention
We keep your information for as long as needed to:
- Provide the App and your account
- Comply with legal obligations
- Resolve disputes and enforce agreements
If you request deletion, we will delete or anonymize your data where reasonably possible, subject to legal/operational requirements (for example, backups retained for a limited time).
7) Security
We use reasonable safeguards to protect your information. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8) Your choices and rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your information, object to or restrict certain processing, or withdraw consent (where applicable).
You can also manage permissions (Photos, Microphone, Speech, Health, Notifications) in iOS Settings.

9) Children’s privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child provided personal information, contact us to request deletion.
10) Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the “Effective date” above and may provide additional notice in the App.
